Ingredients
For the Apple Filling:
5 cups fresh apples, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Crisp Topping:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a deep dish pie plate or 8×8-inch baking dish.
2. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla until evenly coated. Transfer to prepared dish.
3. In a medium bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Stir in melted butter until crumbly.
4. Sprinkle topping evenly over apples.
5. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.
6. Cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce if desired.
Notes
For best texture, allow the crisp to cool uncovered so the topping stays crunchy. Reheat in the oven to restore crispness. You can assemble ahead and refrigerate before baking.
